Sermons That Work is a website that I put together in order to look at how sermons work.

When I was doing my theological training, I was taught how to prepare sermons.

However, it wasn't until I began preaching week in and week out that I began to study the different ways of preparing sermons.

I developed a deductive method that helped me prepare sermons with ease.

I used this deductive method for many years. While doing post-graduate studies, I did a course of study on inductive preaching.

I found inductive preaching was excellent for the narratives. So I preached through the Gospel of Luke using the inductive method. There were several times when I used both inductive and deductive methods to present passages in Luke to my congregation.

After many years of preaching, I find sermons that work are sermons that have good structure - inductive, deductive or bit of both.

I have dedicated this website to sermons that work or how sermons work. I believe it is important to understand this topic so that preachers can present the word of God to the people of God in a way that engages them.
